'I Really Thought My Life Was Going to End.' Inside the Protests Taking on Police Brutality in Nigeria     Police brutality and racial violence can be categorized as a sensitive topic in America due to recent events that have occurred. Pretty much all over you hear stories about police brutality and how people have tried to protest to fight against it. You don't typically hear about police brutality protest going on in international countries and if you do it isn't really paid attention to or taken as serious as it would in the United States. This leads me to talk about a recent protest that has been going on in Nigeria. As of October 15, 2020 Nigerian protesters stood on the Lagos- Ibadan expressway during a demonstration to protest against police brutality. The also stood to fight against the scrapping of Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Lagos. #12 Numeracy

Image
When you hear the word "numeracy" the average person would automatically think of numbers or any type of math. When thinking of what numeracy means in journalism I think of how journalist need math skills to make sense of numbers the way they need language skills to make sense of words. It is important that journalist know how to translate numbers into terms that readers and viewers can understand. The type of numeracy that I will be discussing is numeracy in education. Numeracy education can involve connecting mathematics that students learn at school with the out-of-school situations that require the skills of problem solving, critical judgement, and sense making related to applied context. According to  https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2016/02/which-countries-have-the-best-literacy-and-numeracy-rates/  , " Teenagers in the Republic of Korea have the highest levels of literacy and numeracy of all OECD countries. Korea has a huge educational gap between the younger an

#11 Civics

Civics derives from the Latin word civics, meaning "relating to a citizen". Civics relates to the behavior affecting other citizens. This leads me to specifically talk about civic education. Civic education is the study of the theoretical, political, and practical aspects of citizenship. This can pertain to specific rights and duties. Civic education is important because it builds students’ knowledge and understanding on ways citizens actively participate within the government. Civic education empowers us to be active citizens, well-informed about what’s going on in the government, and gives us the opportunity to change the world around us. Additionally, it is a vital part of any democracy and equips ordinary people with knowledge about our Constitution.        As Americans we are all taught about voting and the government starting in middle school. We can't all be happy with the way the world is going. Many people complain but do not do anything to change it. As a ci

#10 Listening Post

Image
Decades ago most people typically received information or heard about something from listening to the radio, watching the news, or reading the newspaper. In today's generation those aren't ways that most people receive information. In today's generation it is so easy for someone to pick up their mobile device and open twitter, Instagram, snap chat, or any other form of social media. Social media is the new type of news. Information is not heard as much as it used to be through the news or radio. Its sometimes just seen with our own eyes. This leads me to talk about listening post. Listening post can be a various amount of things.     According to  Statistics ,listening post can mean "A point in process where companies can collect and analyze feedback from their consumers. Listening post are a way to conform or disprove that assumption by hearing feedback straight from the source". Listening post are mainly invaluable for understanding what customers truly think
